Debug the Windows Update Process (All Windows)

This setting is used to enable a debug function, called Stepping Mode, which causes Windows Update to prompt during each step of the installation process.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new String value, or modify the existing value called 'SteppingMode' using the settings below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Note: Once you have turned on Stepping Mode, you can proceed with normal download and installation from the Windows Update site. During the download and installation process you will be prompted with a dialog box after each step. You must click OK in each dialog box to continue with the setup.
